WAPA DISABILITY

Started: March 2010

Target group: People with Disabilities of varied disabilities and ages

Objective: to promote full participation, equal opportunities and full access to community, social and economic services for people living with disabilities

Strategic lines: Community Education, Education, Economic Empowerment, Advocacy, Infrastructure and Equipment, Rehabilitation, Relief aid.

Area of operation: Zibagwe Rural District Council, Kwekwe, Midlands Province, Zimbabwe

Achievements:

1. Registration of people with disabilities to ensure a systematic approach in resolving their challenges. The exercise registered 144 people with different disabilities in wards 6, 7, 8, 9 and 32: They are categorized in terms of age, sex, ward, disability, needs and severity (24 March 2010).

2. The programme distributed 150 winter blankets to 150 people living with disabilities in wards 6,7,8,9 and 32, during which community awareness on myths and family support for people with disabilities, each presentation was addressed to at least 200 people per ward (6 & 7 July 2010).

3. Community Education Workshop to promote full participation, equal opportunities and full access to community, social and economic services for people living with disabilities. The workshop was attended by 144 participants from Wards 6,7 and 8 which comprise the chief, village heads, Councilors, clinic representatives, village health workers, ward youth officers, church leaders, women affairs ward coordinators, environmental health technicians and schools health masters (25 February 2011).

 

WAPA MUSIC

Project start: January 2010

Members: fifteen (15)

Songs: forty (40)

Objective: Edutainment in WAPA projects and meetings, non-political government functions, production and distribution of music.

Achievements:

1. WAPA MUSIC has since accompanied WAPA DISABILITY during field work in wards 6,7,8,9, and 32 of Zhombe. It is a source of both entertainment, education in song and refreshment for people living with disabilities during needs assessment (24 March 2010).

2. WAPA MUSIC supported the Community Education Workshop to promote full participation, equal opportunities and full access to community, social and economic services for people living with disabilities (25 February 2011).
